A bridge is a permanently fixed restoration that is used to replace missing teeth. Bridges can be supported by natural teeth adjacent to your missing tooth, or placed directly on top of dental implants. In most cases, our bridges replace one or two teeth at a time at our Southampton and Doylestown, PA dental office locations.
Your Treatment
Like dental crowns, bridges typically require two visits to complete. The first appointment provides us with time to prep your adjacent teeth and take an impression. Two weeks later, your permanent bridge will be ready to bond permanently into place.
Bridges are useful for:
- Improving your self confidence
- Preventing tooth movement/shifting
- Replacing one or two missing teeth
- Replacing up to 3 or 4 teeth when anchored to implants
- Maintaining natural biting and chewing functions
Each of our bridges is made of porcelain, so that it closely resembles the appearance and texture of natural teeth.
Caring for Your Dental Bridge
Cleaning under your new bridge is an important step in maintaining your new restoration. We will show you how to use floss threaders or a small aid to clean between the bridge and your gum tissues. Water flossers can also be very useful and effective for cleaning hard to reach areas such as these types of restorations.
